On Vancouver Island, spring (March-May) and fall (September-November) are ideal for most landscaping projects. These seasons offer mild weather and adequate rainfall for new plantings to establish. However, maintenance services like pruning and lawn care can be done year-round depending on the weather.
During growing season (April-October), most lawns benefit from weekly or bi-weekly mowing. We also recommend seasonal services like aeration in fall, fertilization in spring and fall, and overseeding as needed. We'll create a custom maintenance schedule based on your lawn's specific needs.
Vancouver Island's mild, wet winters and dry summers favor native and adapted plants like Douglas Fir, Western Red Cedar, Salal, Oregon Grape, and Rhododendrons. We also recommend drought-tolerant perennials like Lavender, Sedum, and ornamental grasses that thrive with less summer watering.
Most deciduous trees are best pruned in late winter (February-March) while dormant. Evergreens can be pruned in late spring after new growth. Hedges benefit from pruning 2-3 times per year. We'll assess each species individually as timing can vary based on flowering schedules and growth patterns.
We prioritize eco-friendly methods including composting, native plant selection, water-wise irrigation, organic fertilizers when possible, and integrated pest management. We also focus on soil health improvement and choosing plants that support local wildlife and pollinators.
Project timelines vary greatly depending on scope. Small garden installations might take 1-2 days, while complete landscape renovations can take 1-2 weeks. We'll provide a detailed timeline during your consultation and keep you updated throughout the project.
To make the most of our consultation, please ensure we have clear access to all areas you'd like us to assess. If you have pets, please secure them safely. Yes! We offer seasonal and annual maintenance contracts that can include regular lawn care, garden maintenance, pruning schedules, and seasonal cleanups. Contracts ensure your landscape stays healthy year-round and often provide cost savings over individual service calls.
We accept cash, cheque, and e-transfer. Payment terms will be discussed during your consultation, with larger projects typically requiring a deposit to begin work and final payment upon completion.
Our seasonal services include spring garden cleanup and preparation, summer maintenance and watering systems, fall leaf removal and winterization, and winter pruning.
